Arizona is an “at-will” employment state, which means that an employer or an employee can end an employment relationship for any reason – or for no reason. This applies even in situations where the employer is being unfair when firing an employee. However, laws make it illegal to fire an employee for certain reasons. According to the Civil Rights Act of 1964, employers are barred from terminating an employee on the basis of their:
