Can I Receive Unemployment Benefits and Workers’ Compensation In Arizona?

If you have an accepted workers’ compensation case in Phoenix, and you are on a light duty status per your employer, you can file for unemployment benefits if you were terminated from your employment. However, keep in mind, any benefits you receive from unemployment will be deducted from the temporary partial disability benefits that you would be entitled to from workers’ compensation.

It’s also important to keep in mind that if you have a serious injury and are considering filing for Social Security disability benefits, you should not file for unemployment in the State of Arizona or any other state for that matter. The reason for this is you’re essentially saying that you are “ready, willing, and able” to work if you file for unemployment so it’s a direct contradiction to your application for Social Security disability benefits.

Back to your Flagstaff workers’ compensation case. If you are on a no‑work status for your work comp claim in Prescott, you should not file for unemployment benefits because you are not able to receive them. If you are on a no‑work status, you’re not able to work, so you wouldn’t qualify for unemployment.
