The answer to this question is “yes”. There is a provision in the Arizona workers’ compensation laws that says an injured worker can petition the Industrial Commission of Arizona to settle a permanent disability award that is being paid on a scheduled basis. What this means is an injured worker that has a knee injury, or an arm injury, or a hand injury, typically a single extremity injury, with a permanent disability may be able to obtain a lump sum settlement up to $25,000. Normally, due to that permanent disability, the injured worker is entitled to a payment of benefits over a period of months.
The one caveat is that the Industrial Commission only has jurisdiction to order settlements of scheduled disability awards up to $25,000.00.
