Will All Of My Medical Expenses Be Covered By Workers’ Comp?

Published December 6, 2013 by Matt Fendon Law Group | Firm News

If you are injured on the job, you have the right to seek workers’ compensation benefits. You may be concerned that your medical expenses are covered by the benefits you receive. In fact, this can be a difficult situation for some injuries. The medical care you need must be fully documented so that there is sufficient proof that the medical bills you incurred were as a result of your work injury. There could be conflicting opinions about what types of treatments are necessary, or the length of time you will be given to recover from your injuries.

After being injured at work, in order to get workers’ comp benefits, you must follow procedures exactly, or you could run into trouble getting benefits paid as they should, or even have a claim denied. The process involves reporting the injury to your supervisor at work. Obviously, in a case of serious injury, this is not possible immediately. Any serious injury case should be managed with the help of an attorney skilled in this area of law.

You are entitled to seek compensation to pay for any emergency treatments at the ER, visits to your physician or specialists, hospital costs, tests, rehabilitation and the costs of transportation. Diagnostic testing, including MRI tests or X-ray may be necessary, and should be paid. Generally, if the physician believes you need specific tests, the costs of these tests should be covered by workers’ comp.

Some treatments are limited, such as chiropractic, massage and physical therapy. Before you proceed with treatments, it is important that you know what is covered, and what is not. In cases in which you need treatment beyond the limited number of sessions, your employer or the workers’ compensation insurance company could ask for a second opinion regarding your condition.

Don’t run into trouble with medical bills you can’t pay by failing to correctly manage your workers’ compensation claim. Call upon the professionals at the Fendon Law Firm for assistance.
